Greek Lyrics: Zeibekiko (With airplanes and with ships)
by Sotiria Bellou
With airplanes and with ships
and with our old friends
we are kicking around in the dark
and yet you, you do not hear us.
You do not hear us, who are singing,
with electric voices,
in the underground passages
where our courses collide
with your fundamental principles.
My father, Batis,
arrived from Smyrni in '22
and he lived for fifty years
in a hidden basement.
In that way, all those who love
are eating the bad bread
and their passions follow them
Yesterday night I saw a friend
kicking about like an alien
[sitting] on a motorbike
and the dogs running after him.
Get up, my soul, turn on the power,
set your clothes alight,
set your insides alight,
Like the black breath,
let our awful voice blow itself up.
